SUCCESS! 2017 Shadow Dinner & Auction fundraiser raises record total

Spokane SC Shadow is thrilled to share news that the Fourth Annual SSC Shadow Dinner & Auction held March 11 at The Lincoln Center was a tremendous success. Thanks to the generosity of the club's family and friends, over $31,000 was raised for the club's financial assistance fund.

In addition to a fantastic array of live auction items, there were over four dozen outstanding baskets sold in the silent auction. Including funds raised through tickets, grab bags and games, the total raised was the highest in four years of the annual event - nearly doubling last year's amount - and will help bring the six-year total of financial assistance provided to approximately $300,000.

"The event was very successful, raising over $31,000 for our financial assistance fund," said SSC Shadow Board of Directors Vice President Kari Moore. "This is due in large part from our Spokane Sounders and Spokane Shadow Select teams that contributed incredible silent auction baskets to the event this year.  A huge thank you goes out to the donating teams and to the many team volunteer parents who put these baskets together. Their effort putting the baskets together and collecting donations and funds was amazing!  It is a true testament to the community support for the financial assistance program in our club.  We are already looking forward to next year's event and excited for another entertaining and fun evening supporting a great cause in our club."

The newest feature of the annual fundraiser was arguably the highlight of the evening's events. Special guest speaker Steve Zakuani's speech engrossed the audience with a fantastic blend of funny, heartwarming and inspiring moments that left an indelible impression. His speech covered not only his memorable Major League Soccer injury playing for the Seattle Sounders, but also another setback as a young athlete and his difficulties in advancing his career.

Also taking the stage briefly were a pair of SSC Shadow players, who shared how important the financial assistance program is for the players via brief interviews with emcee Eddie Wood.

Expertly coordinated and managed by Kari Moore, Peggy Clark, Lori Cunningham and Candi Todd, the night concluded with an energetic live auction - emceed by Dealers Auto Auction Northwest - that included a special visit from the Spokane Police K-9 Division.

"We can not thank our Vice President Kari Moore enough for the amount of volunteer time she has put into our annual fundraiser," said SSC Shadow Technical Director Abbas Faridnia. "The growth, the vision and the continued success of the fundraiser is a direct reflection of the diligent work and time, that Kari tirelessly puts forth. A huge thank you to her and Peggy, Candi and Lori for their help in raising funds for some outstanding players that need assistance - what a night!

"Then to top it off with an inspirational and inspiring speech by Mr. Zakuani; it was a night to remember. The many sponsors, donors and families that contributed to the auction were also a direct reflection of the success of the night as well. SSC Shadow is a community, and that community was amazing!"
